Shawn,

What areas where you looking in?

It does tend to vary depending on the suburb. The further out from Brisbane you go, the bigger the blocks.

If you want to be fairly close to the city (about 20km) be close to Moreton Bay (about 4km) and have a decent sized block of land, then Gumdale is quite nice. Very rural, but close to everything. Plenty of space for a dog!

There are plenty of other places that are worth looking at (depends on budget too, of course) but it may be worth a look. (Around Redland Bay/Victoria Point is quite nice too, but a bit further out).

Just go back to the links I sent you last time, and enter Gumdale as the suburb in the search.

Regards,

Nick.

Hi Shawn,

We live in Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland (about an hour/100km north of Brisbane). If you're interested, here is a website with some information on Caloundra

To get a feel for property prices in this area, and around Australia (both rent & purchase) have a look at http://property.com.au and http://realestate.com.au.

There is also a very useful article on the Brisbane City Council website (http://www.ourbrisbane.com/real-estate/renting-an
d-share-accommodation/renting-brisbane) that provides information about renting in Brisbane.

If you are looking for a warm, sub-tropical climate, then Brisbane and the rest of south east Queensland is worth considering (The major centres are Brisbane, the Gold Coast & the Sunshine Coast).

Interestingly, the property prices around south east queensland are in decline, but there is still a high demand for rentals. So, if you are in a position to buy a property, by the time you get here the market will probably have bottomed out (hopefully!)

With regards as to how dangerous it is round these parts, I migrated from England 20 years ago. I've travelled around a fair bit of Australia, done a lot of scuba diving and boating, done loads of camping and never had any drama's with wildlife! (Having said that, I did get bitten by a green ant yesterday! It was a close call, but they managed to save my leg!)

As far as brining your dog is concerned, there would be a quarantine period and it would probably have to have inoculations. For some official information on the subject go to: < a href="http://www.daffa.gov.au/aqis/cat-dogs">http://www.daffa.gov.au/aqis/cat-dogs.

With regards to employment sponsorship for your husband, a good start may be to see if any local employers in the US have offices in Australia, and perhaps contact them to see if there are any opportunities here in Oz. He could also have a look through the following websites for possible vacancies: http://apsjobs.gov.au (Government jobs) http://careerone.com.au (jobs portal).

I would also suggest contacting Susan Wareham via this site. She is a Migration agent, and may be able to help.

Well, that's about it from me for now. Hope that info is of some use to you.

Regards,

Nick.

Hello to all Aussie's on this site. My family and I are seriously interested in moving to AU. We have started our visa applications and now it's time to figure out just 'where' we want to live. Basically I'm a mom, who's looking to move to a new place and need your help to decide where. I'm open to any input/information you have to send. I have two children so I need to know about 1) public schools and 2) private schools. We are Christian. What are houses like? We live in a four bedroom here with 3000sf and pay 1600 a month. We would like an area where the houses aren't too close together. Warm weather, the longer the better :-) We'd like info on the places to raise a family and the places NOT. Should we bring our dogs? How dangerous is it really - will be get killed by the Red Backs? (Just kidding) It would be great to be sponsored, so any ideas on how to find one? My husband has a job currently listed on the MODL, but we don't know how to go about finding employers who are looking for him. I've 'just started' my research, so that's why so green behind the gills. Any/everything you would like to send would be appreciated. And please, don't hesitate to ask me questions if it would help in sending more info. Blessings.
